No further action over Hamilton, Stroll impeding incidents

The Montreal stewards have opted to take no further action over separate incidents of impeding involving Lewis Hamilton and Lance Stroll.

The Briton was alleged to have impeded Pierre Gasly on the approach to Turn 8 in qualifying.

The Ferrari driver explained that he was under the impression that the Alpine was not on a push lap, and his team confirmed that it had the same opinion.

Gasly and his team representative stated they did not consider this to be a case of "unnecessary impeding" and consequently no further action was taken.

Elsewhere, Lance Stroll was alleged to have impeded Nico Hulkenberg on the approach to Turn 5.

The Canadian advised that he saw the German approaching but knew that he did not have the power at that stage of the lap, to move ahead quickly. He also believed that if he tried to move off the racing line (i.e. to the left) he felt he would risk loss of control because he had previously run onto the grass at a prior turn, and that, combined with the track on the left being "dirty", would not have provided sufficient traction.

Hulkenberg (via written submission) and his team representative both agreed that this was not a case of "unnecessary impeding", consequently, once again no further action was taken.

Meanwhile, Sergio Perez was alleged to have failed to move to the right into Turn 13 as required in the Competition Notes, a breach of Article 12.2.1.i of the International Sporting Code.

The Mexican stated that he saw the car behind weaving and assumed it was on an out lap when in fact that car was overtaking another car.

However, whilst this may have been a reasonable assumption, the Cadillac driver still failed to comply with the Competition Notes, consequently, considering the mitigating circumstances, a reprimand was imposed on the Mexican.
