Fears that Imola is to lose its round of the formula One World Championship, effectively Italy's second race, have been allayed following the announcement that a new 5-year deal has been agreed with Bernie Ecclestone.
Massimo Marcignoli and Federico Bendinelli, president of the track's management company, today announced that following a meeting with Ecclestone the future of the San Marino Grand Prix has been assured until 2009.
"We have reached an agreement until 2009," said Marcignoli.
Imola's deal puts further pressure on the British Racing Drivers' Club, owner of Silverstone, which has yet to agree a deal with Ecclestone for 2005.
