It's understood that Bjorn Wirdheim and the Red Bull F1 team have parted company, and that the former F3000 champion will not take part in the forthcoming tests at Barcelona or Jerez.

A Red Bull spokeswoman said: "The decision was taken mutually between Bjorn and the team to release him from his contract so that he can pursue other opportunities."

Wirdheim was scheduled to take over from Vitantonio Liuzzi on Friday, it's understood that the Italian will now continue to test for the Austrian-owned team.

Wirdheim, who was test driver for Jaguar Racing, is now believed to be considering a move to Champ Cars, having previously tested for PKV Racing.
