Former F1 racer, Johnny Herbert, has left the Midland F1 Team, but could still have a job with the team's new owners, Spyker.

The popular Englishman was brought into the Midland team earlier this year for that very reason, his popularity. At a time when the Russian owned team appeared to have an image problem, the three-time GP winner was appointed 'Sporting Relations Manager' in what was seen by many as a cynical move to get the British media on board.

Now, with Midland selling the team to Spyker, Herbert is superfluous to the needs of the former owners, but may still find a role with the new management.

"He was part of the team but it was a different arrangement," team boss Colin Kolles told reporters in Shanghai.

However, Michiel Mol, director of Formula One Racing at Spyker has said that there might still be an opportunity with the (now) Dutch owned outfit.

"I have spoken with Johnny and somewhere in the next week or two we'll sit down and have a chat to see if there is a future or not," he said, according to Reuters. "At the moment I don't know yet. "His deal with Midland finished and now we have to see whether we can do something with him in the future."
