David Coulthard is to miss today's second free practice session at Sepang. The Scot was involved in a freak incident when his front suspension appeared to disintegrate after running off track and over a bump in the first session.

This incident follows speculation as to why his car sustained major damage following an incident at Melbourne during last weekend's Australian Grand Prix.

Shortly before today's second session, Red Bull issued the following statement: "During David Coulthard's accident in this morning's first practice session, his RB4 sustained substantial peripheral damage. With safety the team's primary concern as always, it has been decided that David will not run in this afternoon's session. This will allow the team sufficient time to investigate the causes of the incident and to ensure that the car is fully and properly repaired prior to tomorrow's final free practice session.

To add to the Milton Keynes outfit's woes, Mark Webber was eliminated from the opening session with what appeared to be an engine failure.
