In addition to his role as the third driver for the ING Renault F1 Team, Lucas Di Grassi will contest the rest of the GP2 Series Championship with the Barwa International Campos Team.
As a Renault Development Driver since 2004, di Grassi joined the Renault F1 Team this season as the team’s third and test driver after finishing as vice-champion in the 2007 GP2 Series.
Lucas has been very much involved in the team’s development programme since the start of the year and has worked closely with the team at the first seven Grands Prix in his role as third driver. In addition to his Formula 1 responsibilities, he now joins the Barwa International Camps Team to compete in the remaining seven rounds of the 2008 GP2 Series along side Vitaly Petrov. Attending all the rounds of the Formula 1 world championship, the Brazilian driver sees this as an ideal opportunity to drive more regularly.
Lucas Di Grassi commented: "I am happy to be able to drive in this competition in parallel to my role as the third driver for the ING Renault F1 Team. For me it is the ideal opportunity to drive regularly and the GP2 Series is the closest category to Formula 1. I am sure that I will be able to manage my duties as the third driver for Renault and the expectations that the Barwa International Campos Team has placed on me for the rest of the GP2 Series championship."
Having just returned from the Canadian Grand Prix, di Grassi will be on- track tomorrow at the Paul Ricard HTT circuit for his first run with the Barwa International Campos Team.
