Due to the delay in the new A1GP car build schedule, Team Great Britain will not be ready to participate in the season opener at Zandvoort this weekend.

A1 Team Great Britain today confirmed that it will be one of the A1GP teams absent from Round 1. Despite huge efforts from the entire squad to get the British entry ready to compete in the season opener, the delays in the new A1GP car build schedule has unfortunately meant that this has not been possible.

The challenging 4.63km Dutch track holds good memories for Team GBR. A year ago, the team started the 2007/08 A1GP season in style with a dominant victory in the Feature Race, courtesy of Oliver Jarvis. The team's competitiveness continued throughout the season, and GBR went on to finish third in the Championship. A1 Team GBR is the only national team to achieve top three Championship standings in all three A1GP seasons to date.

The team will now shift its focus to ensuring Great Britain has a competitive entry on the grid for Round 2 taking place at Chengdu International circuit, China on 7-9 November 2008, and looks forward to once again being one of the top contenders in the A1GP Championship battle.

Katie Clements, Team Principal: "We are obviously extremely disappointed that, despite working incredibly hard, A1 Team GBR will not be racing at Zandvoort this weekend. I'm exceptionally grateful to everyone involved in trying to make it possible. However this small set-back definitely hasn't changed our ultimate goal of winning the Championship this season, having come so close in all previous seasons. I am pleased that this will still be possible due to the amended points system announced by A1GP, which means we will not be penalised for missing a race, but A1GP can still offer fans the exciting racing that they have come to expect at the Zandvoort track."
