A1GP organizers finally confirm Mexico City race

Organizers of the A1GP series have been given FIA approval to hold an event at the Mexico City track on the weekend of the 22-24 May 2009, thus making it the eighth and final round of Season Four.

Previously, A1GP organizers asked for FIA approval to move the event back a week from its original date to 20-22 March to avoid a clash with a Radiohead concert held at the circuit.

A few weeks later, tucked away in the preview for the event at Kyalami organizers announced that the Mexican round had been postponed, but claimed they remained hopeful that a new date would be confirmed as soon as they received the necessary FIA approval.

The event, which has been on the A1GP calendar since Season Two, has never before been the series decider.

After receiving the news A1GP CEO, Pete da Silva, said: "It is very important for the series to go back to Mexico City, especially as it won the award for being the best run event of Season Three.

"The fans have always given us a warm welcome," he added, "and it will be great to let them witness the finale of what has been a very exciting first season for the A1GP Powered by Ferrari cars."

The approval is subject to the completion of FIA stipulated track changes that will allow the granting of the necessary licence. This work is due to start soon.

A1GP has visited Mexico every season with Fundidora Park in Monterrey being the track used in Season
