Davide Valsecchi has earned a five position grid penalty for tomorrow's feature race in Monaco as a result of his collision with Pastor Maldonado in the closing stages of this afternoon's qualifying session.
The penalty, for causing an avoidable accident, came as a result of his slow motion collision with Maldonado's stricken car at the Ste Devote corner at the close of the session: with the track drying but still greasy Valsecchi was unable to slow suffiently and tapped his rival's car, leaving the race stewards little choice but to had down the penalty.
Valsecchi, who finished the session in seventh position, will now line up twelfth on tomorrow's grid.
