Pedro de la Rosa, who was due to start today's race from twenty-second on the grid, will now start from the very back after his team opted to change the engine in his car.

The Spaniard, and his Sauber teammate, has a nightmare qualifying session, both spinning off during moments of one another during Q1. "We opted for the wrong tyre choice, as it was definitely too optimistic to go for slicks, and I made a mistake when I lost the rear end of the car before turn 14," he said. "I overestimated the track conditions there and crashed into the barrier."

However, there was worse to come, with his team opting to change the unit in the back of his car, mindful of several previous failures this season. The decision to change the engine means that the Spaniard becomes the first driver to use up his full allocation of (eight) engines, hence the penalty.
