Michael Ammermüller has claimed his first GP2 win in his second race, beating polesitter Ernesto Viso into turn one at the start and pulling away to win by almost ten seconds. The German, who was expected to use the early part of the season to study how the series operates, showed that he is a fast learner, belying his relative lack of experience to take the top step of the podium ahead of Viso and teammate Nicolas Lapierre.
