Netherlands targets podium

NEWS STORY
31/01/2007

After a fourth and fifth place at Taupo A1 Team Netherlands is ready for the return to the Australian Eastern Creek circuit, just outside Sydney, where round seven of the A1GP season will be held this weekend. A1 Team Netherlands is currenty in tenth place in the Series, with 26 points and is of course aiming to add more to that total.

After the race in New Zealand and one last bungy jump in Taupo, of course with the Hamster, the A1 Team Netherlands mascot, A1 Team Netherlands travelled to New Zealand's South Island for the well deserved ‘relaxation'. Queenstown offered more then enough on activities though and the various team members enjoyed jetboating, rafting, canyoning and paragliding. As usual the Hamster joined in and happily engaged in all the extreme outdoor sports. After that the team headed to Australia to enjoy Sydney and it's surroundings for a few more days.

So the team is fully charged again to give it all at Eastern Creek Circuit, which hosted the fourth round last season and where Netherlands finished in seventh and fourth in the Sprint and Feature race. A result which the team is of course aiming to improve on and fight for the podium positions.

After the two week break Jeroen Bleekemolen is ready to go racing again; "After a good weekend in New Zealand I'm hoping that we can finish on the podium on this circuit. The track is somewhat resembling Taupo, so we should have a fairly good basis to start from. The track itself looks good, with a 265 kilometers per hour first corner and after that you also lift off. So, plenty of action".

Renger van der Zande (right) is very much looking forward to go out for his Rookie session on Friday: "In between Taupo and this race I stayed on this part of the world together with the team. We did all sorts of things and I can say I am completely acclimatized now. Today I went for a walk on the track, which is certainly looking very cool. In New Zealand I had a good Rookie session and with the car setup here are in the right direction I think. That will provide confidence for Friday, I am looking forward to it".
