My Qi-Meritus.Mahara seeking strong home finish

NEWS STORY
21/04/2009

My Qi-Meritus.Mahara head home for the sixth and final round of the GP2 Asia season in Bahrain with revived hopes after their driver lineup of Portugal's Alvaro Parente and Italy's Marco Bonanomi showed good speed and potential in the last outing in Malaysia. Parente even earned the My Qi-Meritus.Mahara team a point after setting the fastest lap in race 2. The Bahrain round is an important event for My Qi-Meritus.Mahara, the only team with strong links to the Middle East through their Saudi partner, Raad S. Abduljawad. Both Parente and team mate Marco Bonanomi are eager to get back behind the wheel for this final round of the GP2 Asia Series.

Alvaro Parente commented, "It will be my third race with My Qi Meritus.Mahara after Doha and Malaysia. Going into the last race of the GP2 Asia Championship season I am very anxious to do well and obtain a good result so that we can have the finish we deserve. We want to bring back some very good points at the team's home race. The whole team and I have been working very hard in an well synchronized manner and we are hoping for a great result in the last GP2 Asia race in Bahrain! My Qi-Meritus.Mahara has already shown that we have strong potential, and this time in Bahrain is the right time to show it.

Marco Bonanomi added:"It will be my second race this season in Bahrain. Racing in Bahrain is always a great experience. It's a circuit that all drivers enjoy driving. Sometimes the sand blowing onto the tarmac can be a challenge for us while driving as the grip levels can change from lap to lap. Also braking is the key to a quick lap around Bahrain. At this point of the season, we have enough data to believe in the car's performance. Turn fourteen is interesting with its very quick approach where you brake as you turn into the corner, and you have to be careful not to lock the inside front wheel. I am ready to resume driving duties for My Qi-Meritus.Mahara for the final round of the season at the Bahrain International Circuit on April 24 and 25. In this race I want to fight for the front of the grid and for the win!"

Raad S. Abduljawad, Team Chairman, My Qi-Meritus.Mahara commented: "It is good to be back for the last event of the season at our home race. It will be important to get as many points as possible in order to keep a good place in the Championship. Both drivers are on the case."

Peter Thompson, team founder commented, "We will be fighting hard to turn Marco Bonanomi and Alvaro Parente's potential into results and score points in our home race, where I know we can count on the amazing support of our fans."
