Fernando Alonso will miss this afternoon's qualifying session as his team was unable to repair his car in time following his accident in this morning's free practice session.

The Spaniard lost control of his car on the run up to Casino Square, subsequently admitting that it was driver error.

With the team unable to get hold of the damaged car until the session was finished getting the car repaired in time was always going to be difficult. However, once the car was back in the Maranello outfit's garage it was discovered that the damage was worse than originally thought with the chassis having sustained such serious damage that it is considered "not repairable".

As a result Alonso - a two time winner here - will start tomorrow's race from the pitlane in a new car.
