Daniil Kvyat will use a new chassis for today's Grand Prix, necessitating a pitlane start.

The Russian crashed out of Q1 - bringing out the red flags - in another incident related to the controversial new kerbs at the Red Bull Ring.

After running wide at the infamous T8 on to the kerbing, he clouted the wall at the pitlane entrance before spinning across the gravel trap and into the tyre barriers at the other side of the track.

"I went on the outside kerb and the right suspension failed," said the Russia. "The crash was unavoidable, but fortunately I'm okay."

"We are still putting together the full picture of what caused his accident," added chief engineer, Phil Charles. "I think it is only fair to say so far we see that Daniil has come into contact with the large sausage kerbs on the exit of T8 and that from the data we see some large and oscillatory loads in the suspension as a result.

"Unfortunately after this the car made contact with two barriers. This has left us with some damage to the nose and front of the car as well as to the rear suspension. It is likely that we will have to change chassis tonight."

Indeed, that is what the Faenza team elected to do, the stewards confirming the decision in a brief statement.

"The stewards have received a request from Scuderia Toro Rosso to re-scrutineer car 26 which was involved in an accident in Qualifying," it read. In accordance with Article 25.5 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations, the Stewards agreed that this can take place on July 3rd, before the Race."

In a subsequent statement officials said: "As the survival cell has been changed the competitor is required to start from the pitlane and should follow procedures laid out in Article 36.2 of the FIA Formula One sporting Regulations.

"The penalty for the change of gearbox before 6 consecutive events have expired (5 grid position penalty), is overridden by the requirement to start from the pit lane.

Though starting from the pitlane this also means the Russian can benefit from late changes made in lieu of the ever changing weather conditions.
