Todt doesn't care that fans don't like Halo

NEWS STORY
07/09/2017

While the sport's new owners are working flat-out trying to win new fans to the sport, it would appear that FIA president, Jean Todt, is working hard to turn existing fans away.

During his visit to Monza at the weekend, where he spoke at an FIA Action for Road Safety press conference, when advised that a majority of fans are against Halo device, which is due to be introduced next season, he replied: "Honestly, I don't care...

"I do care if something will happen and I will realise that we didn't do something that we could do," he added.

"If you see all the latest severe crashes in single-seater racing, they have been around the head," he insisted. "I am sure that other bad incidents will happen, and we need to have a vision to do something beforehand."

However, in an attempt to sweeten the pill, the Frenchman suggested that there are ways in which the Halo could be used to improve the fan experience.

"I think there are some clever ideas," he said, "I heard one idea that I quite like, that we should give a different colour of Halo to the leader of the world championship.

"I want to see the name and the number of the cars, which we cannot see," he enthused. "Maybe it will be an opportunity for that, even if I hear already that some teams have sold the space to sponsors."

""I don't care what fans think" - nice to know..

Perhaps we could have:

Yellow Halo for WDC leader.
Green Halo for the WCC leader.
Golden Halo for the best behaved driver.
Silver Halo for the best behaved team.
Red Halo for angriest Vettel.
Black Halo for naughtiest driver.
Blue Halo for the pole sitter.
A number of white stripes corresponding to the number of PU elements used so far by that driver.
A number of purple stripes corresponding to the number of grid place penalties incurred by using too many PU elements.

Where more than one applies, there will be a mix of the colours in bands of a certain width equally spaced and repeated down each side.

If there is not enough space on the Halo to display the number of colour bands and the requisite number of stripes, then teams shall be permitted to extend these markings down the side of the engine casing as long as they follow the correct banding specification.

Any car not displaying the correct banding/stripe combination and not adhering to the size and colour specifications will be subject to a penalty of 1 grid place penalty per infringement. This penalty will be denoted by a number of orange stripes corresponding to the number of grid place penalties thus incurred and shall be applied prior to the race.

"Does he think we are stupid and don't know who is a championship leader, so he must point out who is it with other color of Halo?"

"Wonder where it would go on a Motogp bike? They are as fast as a F1 and don't even have a safety belt, let alone a survival shell cockpit.
We all know where it should go on Todt though."

"I do not like the Halo and do not wantto see it on the cars But if it is coming and Todt wants to have it enhance the fan experience, then mount in in car camera in the center post at the driver's eye level. That will put an end to Brubnle et al commenting the camera gets a better track view than the driver!

A much better idea than a yellow halo a la T de F!"

"So much for French intellectualism - revolutionary heat and rational cool. Now it has given way to knee-jerk cover-my-donkey. This is the wrong answer to the wrong problem. Jules Bianchi died because the FIA made a serious error of judgment by not bringing out the safety car. The end result is this out-damned-spot-out abomination, but nothing, and especially not this damned sanctimonious acronym, will wash the blood off their hands."

"When we remove all the risk from this sport we limit what is worthwhile to a driver. Skill without risk is golf. If Todt wants no risk what next driverless F1? "

"We, the fans dont care what Todt thinks and wants. He never listens to any advice. And as far as the Syria scandal, how long before he is kicked out ? My message to him is : "go now before you ruin our sport""

"Whilst it looks awful, as a (supposed) safety device it is hard to argue against. However having a "Halo Jaune" à la Tour de France is just plain stupid.

What would he do should (God forbid) there be an accident where the halo aggravates the injuries suffered, rather than minimising them? No doubt there will be some form of "reason" given exonerating him for any culpability."

"Please, please please, don't ever re elect this idiot.
His input to F1 has been a disaster since day one with Ferrari who he protected over and above the law.
Why doesn't he try his bull sh*t with Motogp or anything else where the people with balls who run it will tell the tadpole where to go."
