FIA rescinds Hamilton's penalty points

NEWS STORY
27/09/2020

Following new information from Mercedes the Sochi stewards have rescinded Lewis Hamilton's penalty points and instead fined the German team.

The stewards received information from the team that Hamilton had received a team instruction to perform his practice start(s) in the incorrect place.

This was confirmed by the stewards having listened to the audio between the team and the driver.

Based on this information the stewards replaced documents 46 and 47 with this decision and therefore removed the penalty points imposed while imposing a fine of 25,000 Euros on the German team.

"This kind of incident is the reason that the sport is no longer credible, people believe that it's all about Mercedes and Hamilton, and really, they just don't bother to watch.
Add to that how F1 TV pro commentators are really all over Mercedes and Lewis , insulting people that pay and are not fans of Mercedes or Lewis, and there you have it.

As I was saying to my brother yesterday, there are people hoping that with the change of management in F1, maybe there are things to change come Jan 1st, not that I am holding my breath here but still. "

"According to reports Mercedes were fully cognizant of what they had done and were expecting penalties. Hamilton would be made aware of that. For Hamilton to then accuse the stewards of a conspiracy is dumb. Somehow he manages to manipulate the events to divert attention from the facts. To even consider that the penalty was a 'discriminatory' gesture towards him is a low act. I believe that the stewards are doing a fine job and they appear to be most welcoming to any diverse opinions and if they have made an error they adjust accordingly as they have done here. 'Maybe it's coz i'm winning every race' . Apologies to Ali G."

"So... At the FIA "I was just following orders" is somehow a valid defense?

And because the team instructed it, it all of a sudden isn't dangerous anymore?

What a bunch of wimps.

"Exactly @Tom2681, the driver is a participant with agency, this is a ridiculous decision."

"Doesn't make much sense, but hey.... what's new?
Team instructions or not, Lewis should know the sporting regulations inside and out.
His answer should have been "no, I'm not allowed to do practice starts here guys".
The team penalty should be added to Lewis' penalty points, it shouldn't replace it."

"Mmm....
So Lewis received team instruction(s) to stop and practice there, but apparently Valteri did not - Conspiracy theorists on both sides, discuss!

BTW - if anyone should find a large teddy thrown out of a 1000bhp perambulator in Sochi this afternoon, please return to a Mr L Hamilton c/o Merecedes F1, Brackley, UK along with an explanation on why they are picking on him ;)"
