"It's not very satisfactory," says Steiner of Schumacher crash

Haas team boss, Guenther Steiner is clearly not happy following Mick Schumacher's costly Monaco crash.

Though he only got it wrong by 10 centimetres, Mick Schumacher's crash during the Monaco Grand Prix has not gone down well with team boss, Guenther Steiner.

The youngster hit the barriers in the Swimming Poll complex, splitting it in two and resulting in the second red flag of the afternoon.

"I'm feeling alright," said Schumacher after a visit to the circuit's medical centre for precautionary checks.

"It felt super weird," he said of the crash. "From what I saw on the video, it just seemed like we were like 10cm further out and that kind of triggered maybe a wet patch or whatever with the front wheel, which then translated into a rear wheel slide.

"That's where basically the rear came around," he added. "I tried to correct it and that's why it went to the left. It's very, very unfortunate and very annoying.

"In terms of pace we were definitely there and it's just a matter of keeping it on track. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do that. The pace felt strong and it felt like we were able to attack and push. but I went a bit too wide.

"That's enough to lose all grip that you thought you had, and the result is what happened." said the youngster, who was forced to sit-out the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after crashing heavily in qualifying.

The German's crash came minutes after teammate Kevin Magnussen had retired due to a water leak on his ERS system, meaning a double DNF for the American team which had expected much more from the weekend.

"We obviously saw what happened," said an uncharacteristically unhappy Guenther Steiner. "It's not very satisfactory having a big crash again. We need to see how we move forward from here."

"If my math is correct, this is looking like 3 cars in 6 or 7 races.
Even a big tram would be concerned about the cost. A small team .... betcha there were some colorful metaphors in use in the back room.
Wonder if Ferrari will get a bill for some of this before the end of the year.?"

I don't know the reason, but I am with you, it's odd that it breaks there, not something you normally see in other wrecks. Take note that he hit the new "spongy" safe barriers that absorb a lot of energy, not metal rails nor concrete which are hard impacts.
Saw a few hard impacts at Indy yesterday and during the weeks of practice and none split the rear end from the engine. So, there could be a weakness on the bellhousing.....to save on weight maybe?"

"@ MalMalc114, it's been many more since Grosjean's. It's two big ones for Mick this year alone, Jeddah and Monaco, where the powertrain has split from the tub ... never mind Mazepin's big ones last year

@Alvarezh3, you think that the bellhousing is the issue? The bellhousing is made to break to save the engine and transmission units but this is crazy. No other team has this many carsplitting crashes..."

"The tub is in one piece. The transmission casing broke at the engine's junction, the engine is still attached to the tub.
There are very clear photos of the broken car at rest on the net."

"This looks like the second time the HAAS team F1 car has split into two separate parts, maybe they have some sort of fault with their build, the first time we all remember the Fire incident which followed, but that also broke into two parts."

"Am I the only one who wonders about the Haas monocoque?

The team this year has really grasped the new rules, the monocoque has passed every FIA structural integrity test and they've produced one of the very best cars, just look at the points tally.... and yet, every one of their accidents lately reminds one of a 80's Indy accident, with the car expoding, ripped apart and parts strewn everywhere. Other similar crashes of the Norris McLaren, Bottas Mercedes/ Russell Williams, Verstappen Red Bull Silverstone or Leclerc Ferrari or Sainz Ferrari their cars crashes remained intact. Again, it may just be me..."
