FIA set to give Andretti F1 bid the green light

NEWS STORY

Andretti's bid to enter the sport is set to be given the green light, however getting the approval of F1's owners and the teams is another matter entirely.

Though no official details are forthcoming from any of those involved it is understood that the FIA is on the verge of announcing that it has accepted the American team's entry in 2026.

The move will face stiff opposition from F1 itself and the majority (eight) of the current teams.

However, it will not be easy for F1 to reject Andretti without violating the European Union's strict anti-competition laws, while exclusion from the Concorde Agreement could also prove difficult.

The news comes days after Andretti announced the reorganisation of its entire motorsport operation which will now falls under the Andretti Global banner.

Andretti Global will unite all aspects of the organisation under a single identity, more closely aligning with the team's already-established legacy.

Andretti currently operates in eight motorsports platforms racing across six continents with F1 being the next obvious step.

"I'm proud of what Andretti Autosport has accomplished over the years, and all the memories that have come with so many special moments," said CEO, Michael Andretti.

"Just as proud as I am of our past, I'm equally excited about our future," he added. "As we continue to expand and build a global racing institution, our goal is to be engrained in the culture of our fans, teams and partners.

"This rebrand is a major milestone in our team's journey, but we are only getting started. We are determined to achieve success and confident that there are big things in store for Andretti Global."

"Has anybody given any thought to how this all looks to the outside world ?
Or the number of prospective businesses / Possible sponsors who are out there, saying to themselves, no way would I get involved with this mafia or monopoly, Who dont appear to have any leadership or direction."

"Is this a decision which FIA can make unilaterally, or do the teams and other "stakeholders" get a say. We all know Toto isn't keen on new teams joining, but nor are the likes of RBR et al & for the same reasons (dosh)."

"Like @USAF1genius said earlier, it IS stagnant. Even playing the F1 game on the PlayStation gets boring because it's only 20 cars and the same faces over and over again (for a long time hardcore fan like me, young-ish at 38 but not old either), imagine how it must be for the new fans Liberty seems to cater entirely to."

"This great news and I'm happy to see Andretti will be given a chance. But really it should not be this much of a deal. New comers should be welcomed with open arms, not left outside the castle walls while the tenants throw rotten fruit at them.

Sports should be open to everyone who wants to give it try. Unfortunately F1 is now an 'Entertainment' and they are governed by the rules of the richest. "

"At the current rate, F1 is on course for a NASCAR like tire blowout. Stay stagnant and the fans will tune out soon enough. The series needs to shake things up periodically...not with gimmicks but with new blood. There was a time when a privateer like Arturo Merzario could show up with one car and attempt to get in the race under the qualifying rules of the time. Most times, these privateers did not make the cut, but sometimes they did. If there are folks out there willing to spend their money like that ..let 'em have at it! "

"I have supported the admission of Andretti for a long time. Some fresh air will be welcome. What it does provide is another level of competition and that can't be bad for the future of F1. Andretti are a very professional group of racers. Racing is their business. The main question I have is, 'how will Toto cope'? "

"It would be good for all concerned with Andretti becoming the 11th team in F1 (except Toto who is worried about losing money and having more competition)."
