Newey already making his mark at Aston Martin

The usually taciturn Lance Stroll has nothing but good things to say about Adrian Newey and the impact he is already having on the team.

The Canadian, who has been widely criticised this year for his attitude - and lack of results - was unusually open over the Monza weekend when asked about Newey's arrival at the team.

"We spent some time together and it's always great just hearing what he has to say and just talking about the future," Stroll told reporters.

"Right now, it's full focus on making next year's machine," he added. "He's been doing it for this long and he's won more championships than anyone in this paddock, so I guess that says it all.

"I think there's not much reason not to smile about Adrian Newey making next year's car, so it's all exciting times," said the Canadian, in a rare outburst of positive emotion.

"He's just so passionate and excited about the new regs," he continued. "That's what's awesome to see, just how much passion, focus, effort is going into the new regs and the team too. Just being in a new environment, new team, he's just uplifting everyone and just creating this healthier culture inside of the whole factory. That's pretty awesome to see."

And Newey isn't the only new arrival at the Silverstone-based outfit, for the team has a new engine partner.

"Also very exciting," said Stroll. "All of it. All the pieces of the puzzle are coming together and it's just an exciting time for us as a team."

Teammate Fernando Alonso is similarly enthused.

"For sure, the best ever designer in the sport and no one probably will achieve the numbers that he has," says the two-time world champion on the team's YouTube channel. "The way he works explains some of the results that he had. He has an incredible way of seeing the car as one piece that works together, not single devices that provide performance. He can just anticipate the whole car in one piece.

"He seems in control of everything all the time," the Spaniard continues, "a self-confidence that I probably never saw before. He's not stressed about any other team or any other philosophy or any other design. He believes that his will be the best."

The most experienced driver in the history of the sport admits that Newey's very presence gives him a confidence boost.

"He came to Monaco for the race, he was just in the garage, not talking to many people, but at the same time, always thinking and touching the front wheel here, the suspension there.

"He's, I think, an artist more than an engineer."
