Chinese Grand Prix: Preview - Cadillac

NEWS STORY
10/03/2026

Just one week after finishing its debut Formula 1 Grand Prix, the Cadillac Formula 1 Team travels to Shanghai, China, for the second round of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship this weekend (March 13-15).

The Chinese Grand Prix comes just days after the team made history by completing its debut race at the Albert Park Circuit, Melbourne, Australia. Checo Perez finished the Australian Grand Prix in 16th, marking a monumental milestone in the team's development, just 366 days after it received official confirmation of its 2026 Formula 1 entry.

This weekend represents another first for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, as it takes on its maiden F1 Sprint: a 19-lap race a day before the main Grand Prix on Sunday. The Sprint weekend's fast-paced format - which includes another Qualifying session - poses a fresh challenge to the American outfit, as it looks to build upon the strong foundation it established in Melbourne.

"It was incredibly special to see the Cadillac Formula 1 Team come to life and make history by finishing our first race," said Graeme Lowdon, Team Principal. "We learned a huge amount in Australia, and we are keen to build upon that knowledge during our first F1 Sprint weekend. Having proved that we can operate at the high standard demanded by Formula 1, our aim is to further our performance and reliability."

Checo Perez: "It was wonderful to finish the Cadillac Formula 1 Team's first race last weekend. It is now all about making steps forward everywhere we can, and Shanghai is a completely different style of circuit, which means we can learn a lot. The Sprint will make this weekend a challenge, but I am excited to get back in the car and help the team to race."

Valtteri Bottas: "It's great to get back to China, where there's lots of support for the sport. For us, it's going to be our second-ever race weekend. It's also a Sprint with only one practice session, which is going to make the weekend interesting. Overall, I think we'll be again in a stronger position as a team - we've learned a lot from Melbourne. I just can't wait to get back to the car and perform the best we can with this quick turnaround."

The Chinese Grand Prix is also the home race for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team's Reserve Driver, Zhou Guanyu. The 26-year-old, who was born in Shanghai and is China's first and only Formula 1 driver, will continue to support the team trackside, having worked closely with its drivers and personnel during the Australian Grand Prix.

Zhou Guanyu: "The Cadillac Formula 1 Team is making progress every time it goes out, and I am sure it will make another leap forward in Shanghai. The support for the team in China is already very strong, and I am so proud to be part of this latest chapter in F1 history."
