An update from the WMC Formula World Championship for Drivers

NEWS STORY
25/09/2025

The proposed new WMC Formula World Championship for Drivers has issued an update on progress.

When in a position to make an official announcement, a live press conference will be held, though organisers stress that in the 21st century this is less common, Nonetheless fans will be informed about developments through press releases. A website is being prepared, and all relevant documents will be published on it, with regular updates to meet changing needs.

WMC has already opened negotiations with race tracks around the world, and at the moment has interest from seven countries interested in hosting rounds of the WMC Formula Drivers World Championship on a multi-year basis. Organisers will continue to negotiate until a complete calendar of 17 races is filled.

Furthermore, several representatives of various racing teams have expressed interest in the conditions under which it is possible to permanently join the WMC Formula Drivers World Championship.

Negotiations have not yet officially started because a tender for the participation of racing teams has not yet been opened, and therefore, it is not possible to sign a participation contract.

However, interested teams can contact the organisers in order that they can be invited when the conditions and time for applications are publicly announced.

At the moment, there is no distinct timeline or deadline for interested parties to apply for entry.

The question of driver eligibility criteria has also been raised. The rules have not yet been finalized and published, but it is useful to state that the WMC has decided to be guided by the following principles: The minimum age limit for driver participation is 16 years, provided that they have had a minimum of two years of verified competition in lower formulas.

Additionally, they will have to obtain the approval of the WMC commission, composed of experienced racers in high-level formula races, and this in a test drive.

In any case, New Drivers Day tests will be organized several times during the season, in which only new drivers can participate.

For all drivers over 18 years of age, previous experience in formula races is required.

In terms of obtaining a WMC Formula License, results achieved in other competitions in the previous 3 years are recognized, more details will be forthcoming.

However, until the publication of the complete rules, organisers stress that they will not provide further information on these issues.
