A cull at Aston Martin

NEWS STORY
07/11/2025

It is understood that Aston Martin has culled at least seven members of its design team.

The move is somewhat understandable what with the Silverstone-based outfit having recruited the likes of Adrian Newey and Enrico Cardile, while the budget cap will also have played a part as those who work on the design of the car are included within the cap, apart from the three highest-paid executives.

Among those leaving is Eric Blandin, who joined from Mercedes in 2022 as deputy technical director, but has been aerodynamics director since the start of this season. Also leaving is former chief designer Akio Haga.

Though leaving the F1 programme, some of those being dropped may find other positions within Aston Martin's motorsport programme.

"We don't comment on internal matters and we don't have anything to announce yet," said a spokesperson for the F1 team. "However, we are going through a technical restructure ahead of the 2026 season which will be announced in the near future."

Another high-profile signing was Andy Cowell, former head of Mercedes' engine division, HPP, who was appointed CEO and Team Principal in January.
